Adara’s POV

I remember the days when I strongly believed, deep within the core of my heart, that I was nothing but a cursed soul destined to live a life of misery and misfortune. All because I had been born different from the other phoenixes.

Unlike most fire phoenixes, I was not born with brilliant fiery colors. No, I came into this world as one of the dreaded phoenixes of darkness. For that reason only, every phoenix I encountered during my childhood always had a hateful look in their eyes when glancing in my direction.

Yet I never wished any harm on any of them nor any misfortune to befall them. Still, according to the legend they grew up hearing about, I was nothing but a threat.
A curse that no one should ever approach.

They feared me, loathed me, wanted me dead.

I spent centuries escaping and hiding from everyone. Phoenix or human alike, they all wanted to be rid of me. It was easy to sink into despair and lose hope. I began to hate myself, just as everyone else did. I tried to keep my distance from everyone. And, unless I was threatened, I didn’t kill a soul.

It wasn’t until several millennia later that I met someone who didn’t look at me with detest in their eyes.
Those lavender eyes were full of light, hope and love. I could not understand, I was surprised to see that those eyes were actually looking at me, not past me, but right at me.

Aidan’s POV

I’ve always been taught to see the good in every individual, because everyone was born with pureness in their hearts. Whether they realized it or not, that light is always in them.  I grew up watching my parents treat others fairly, with compassion and warmth. They treated everyone in this way, even those who wronged them, giving them a second chance.

My parents sheltered me, kept me from danger for they knew that even with all the good people in the world, there were those who allowed malicious intent to devour their hearts, blocking the pure light that once shone within them.

Even still, I saw the world with a cheerful heart, appreciating every moment of it as I grew up.
I thought I had seen all the beauty life had to offer, being with my family, I never spent a day where I didn’t feel love and joy.

But then I met her and I realized that I had yet to see the most beautiful part of life. Her eyes were always filled with sadness, regret, guilt, and anguish. I couldn’t begin to imagine what she had gone through for her eyes to reflect such despair. But despite all of that, they were beautiful. Those golden eyes that glimmered in the moonlight, captivated me so. She was beautiful.

Adara’s POV

His eyes.
Such a warm glow emanating from them, like I’ve never seen before. I couldn’t understand why he looked at me with such adoration.

From the beginning I warned him of what I was, and what it meant to interact with someone like me. I didn’t want to hurt such a precious soul. I was afraid to taint him and bring misfortune upon him. That is what I was lead to believe all my life, after all. That I would bring nothing but disaster to strike those around me.

Despite my warnings, he kept coming, he wanted to get to know me more. For the longest time I tried to keep my distance, I couldn’t. I didn’t want to admit it, but he made me happy. His presence brought the only bit of light into my life.

Aidan’s POV

She was hesitant at first, but little by little she would let me spend more time with her. I couldn’t help but be so intrigued by her. But it devastated me to see her so broken.
She told me what she was, but I didn’t care.

“A curse”.
She uttered that about herself like it was a fact. But truly seeing the kind of phoenix she was, I never saw anything but goodness in her. She was precious to me.

I could never understand why others would judge her so harshly merely because of an old legend about her kind. It was cruel and unjust. I wanted her to see that I didn’t think of her that way, nor could I ever.

With every passing moment we spent, I couldn’t help but adore everything about her.

Adara's POV

He made me see life with a fresh new perspective. His bright smile made my heart glow. The way he treated me like no other, with such compassion that I felt I never deserved in the first place, filled me with such bliss and joy.

He wasn’t afraid of me, nor did he hesitate to get close to me. He never thought of me as a repulsive creature like others had nor did he push me away when he learned everything of my dark past. He restored the little hope I once had, many years back when I was still but a naïve child.

He made me feel loved for the first time in my life.
I realized that I loved him dearly. I couldn’t imagine my life without him anymore.

Aidan’s POV

She said she wasn’t capable of bringing anyone happiness, but she did that and much more for me. I felt that we had a strong connection with each other, ever since the day we met. I believe that we had always been destined to be together.

Adara’s cheeks flourished a rosy red, her honey golden eyes glowing as she admired his lavender ones.
She smiled, a warm and loving smile that only he could bring out of her.

His forehead softly touched hers, his eyes glowing with adoration for her. He could get lost in those precious eyes of hers.

Time stopped as the two simply cherished their time together in the stillness of the night. Both gazing lovingly at each other, no words had to be spared for each to know how much they treasured one another.

For a dark phoenix to love and be loved at all,
was a miracle all in itself.

Two complete opposites.
As different as night and day,
Light and darkness,
Yet made perfect for each other.
